I just found an amazing quote by Sir Ken Robinson (2009). For me, it encapsulates a lot of what I believe is throwing our ‘CIVILIZED’ world into chaos.
Here it is:
“We have evolved this powerful sense of imagination.
What happens in all times of conflict and cruelty is we shut empathy off so that we can do things that are unimaginable, and the way we avoid that is by kindling our imaginations and making those things unimaginable in turn.”
As a writer, I want to entertain, I want to provoke thought, evoke enchantment. I am a kind of digital or paper goddess- placing words upon a ‘page’ and creating my own dimensions – and yet, I feel an even stronger responsibility to tell the TRUTH. And the truth, according to me, is bound to be at least a little different from the truth, according to you.
Bear with me…
For a very long time, a powerful subset of the human race has been ‘writing’ the dimension that most of us live in to suit their own desires. The only people who think there isn’t anything wrong with this are the people doing the writing.
Over the decades, we’ve traded in our homesteads, allowed our freedom to be eroded away, and, imperceptibly slowly, have embraced the mass slavery of THE WAY IT IS instead of the freedom of THE WAY IT OUGHT TO BE.
Don’t you think it’s time that we write a new world? Could we make it a world of empathy? A world of love and a world of justice?
I believe we most certainly can, and more… That we MUST.
I’m not talking death and war. I’m simply suggesting taking back what belongs to the people of this world, by our love, by our acceptance, remembering and understanding that divisiveness and fear have been used as tools for so long that we have been converted into a desperate and fearful people, hiding away our true empathy in return for servitude and pseudo safety.
Let’s write this world the way it’s supposed to be. Let’s use traditional and social media as it’s meant to be used.
Open your hearts and minds to empathy and healing, and let’s rewrite OUR world.
